Brooklyn Heights is New York’s oldest unchanged neighborhood, and its first designated historic district. The neighborhood is a treasury of beautiful old houses and tree-lined streets. Some New Yorkers claim that this is what New York used to look like. Today, it has become one of the most desirable residential neighborhoods in Brooklyn. These days rents in Brooklyn Heights reach skyscraper heights; long gone are the days when literary people lived in the neighborhood. Montague Street, the heart of Brooklyn Heights, is packed with shops, restaurants and bars. The neighborhood’s biggest attraction is the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a unique park promenade build atop the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The promenade offers spectacular views of the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline.
