After a drive through the forests of Pelham Bay Park, you will arrive on City Island, a world far, far away from the city. Founded in 1685, the small fishing community juts into the Long Island Sound and Eastchester Bay. City Island could pass for a sleepy New England village, except that it’s accessible by a New York City bus. It is filled with boat slips, yacht clubs and Victorian captains’ houses. It’s main and only thoroughfare is City Island Avenue, which is lined on both sides with seafood restaurants and antique stores.
