Dumbo is a neighborhood located between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn. The name is an acronym for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass”. Dumbo was an abandoned, rather creepy warehouse district until artists started flowing in as early as the 1970s. Today, the area is known for its artists and young people who live in warehouses converted into loft space and studios. Even though Dumbo has gentrified over the last couple of years, its industrial appearance with graffiti-dotted red-brick warehouses and cobblestone streets remains. The area also offers some boutiques and street side galleries. Fulton Ferry Park between the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge offers excellent views of Manhattan.
