Located in the heart of Queens, Elmhurst is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in New York City, populated by immigrants especially from Asia and Latin America. A rapidly growing Chinatown has evolved in Elmhurst, making it the second in Queens. Located along Broadway between 81st Street and Whitney Avenue, this Chinatown is developing as a satellite of the Flushing Chinatown in Queens. The area not only includes Chinese businesses, but also many Southeast Asian shops and restaurants catering to Thais, Malaysians, Indonesians and Vietnamese people.
Queens Center, which is located at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and Woodhaven Boulevard, is the biggest shopping mall in Queens. It is also one of the most profitable shopping malls by square foot in the United States, and thus attracts a lot of people and traffic to the area.
