Hamilton Heights, Manhattan

Hamilton Heights is a neighborhood in the western part of Harlem. Together with the neighborhood of Sugar Hill, the area has been known as the wealthier part of Harlem. Elegant houses and beautiful brownstones line the quiet residential streets of Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill. The name Sugar Hill originated in the 1920s when the neighborhood became a popular place to live for wealthy African Americans, including Adam Clayton Powell and Duke Ellington.
