Little Italy is a neighborhood in Manhattan, once known for its large population of Italian immigrants. In the middle of the 20th century however, many Italian immigrants left Manhattan for other boroughs and Little Italy began to gradually shrink. Today Little Italy basically consists of Mulberry Street, which is a nice pedestrian street filled with Italian restaurants and gourmet-shops. Little Italy still attracts a lot of tourists; however, the real Italian atmosphere can’t be found there anymore. For a more authentic “Little Italy” experience, Belmont in the Bronx is the place to go.
